„España. El nombre y la idea a través de los siglos” [Spain. Name and idea through the centuries]
A course of the history of Spain was elected as an important part of the Spanish language-culture module. Having an organized knowledge of history, it is easier to understand a culture and present situation of a concrete country. The lecture will last the whole academic year (60 h), but it will be focused on most important elements of the history of Spain, also myths and legends, and other aspects which are important in the image of this country all over the world through the centuries. The appearance of the term “Spain” (España) and its evolution will be presented. Among main subjects there will be: first habitants of the Iberian Peninsula, its Romanization, Visigothic Spain, Al-Andalus and Christian kingdoms, Catholic Kings and their reforms, beginning and end of the Empire, Spanish War of Independence, creation of the liberal state, nationalisms and the concept of Spain in the 20th century. The lecture will be approved by attendance (there is a possibility not to be present twice a semester), and – for these students which will want it – with a note based on a short essay.
