Who am I?

Since 2018 Full Professor at the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” University of Warsaw. 

22.03.2018 after  the nomination of the President of the Republic of Poland I received the award of the Professor title.    

2004 Habilitation (Faculty of Polish Studies University of Warsaw) on the bases of the book Ikona domu [The Icon of the Fatherland], published in the Institute of Slavic Studies Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, 2001.

1995 PhD. thesis“The Image of Major Change in the Bulgarian poetry of the first halve of twenties of 20th century”. Published in 1996: Obraz wielkiej przemiany w poezji bułgarskiej (1918-1925)[The Image of Great Change in Bulgarian poetry 1918-1925 ] Institute of Slavic Studies Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw 1996.

1983 MA thesis, “Function of symbol in the poetry of Jovan Dučić i Pejo Jaworow“ at the Institute of Slavonic Philology University of Warsaw. 

Author and editor of 10 books, among others: Macedonia: Land, Region, Borderland (2013), The Image of Russia in the Balkans (2016, with Krzysztof Usakiewicz), The Balkan Jews and the Minority Issue in South-Eastern Europe, in Polish:Obraz wielkiej przemiany w poezji bułgarskiej (1918-1925)[The Image of Great Change in Bulgarian poetry 1918-1925](1996),Ikona domu[The Icon of the Fatherland](2001), Wprowadzenie do Bałkanologii[Introducton into Balkanology](2015, with Irena Sawicka), and more than 70th articles, among others: Territory and language from the perspective of 19th and 20th century Macedonia (as a representation of the Balkans). GOLD MEDAL BLAŽE KONESKI  ( 9 October 2018) from the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts – the highest distinction in the Republic of North Macedonia, that a foreign scholar can receive.

Since 2012 Editor-in-Chief of annual of the Institute of Slavic Studies Polish Academy of Sciences Colloquia Humanistica from 2014 as an open access; from 2015 on ERIH+; from 2017 on SCOPUS (https://ispan.waw.pl/journals/index.php/ch/issue/view/26)

Since 2011 Editor-in-Chief of the book series “Colloquia Balkanica” of the Publishing House: Wydawnictwa DiG and the Faculty of „Artes Liberales” University of Warsaw. Until now we published seven Volumes (http://polbalkanology.al.uw.edu.pl/)

Since 2009 Chair of the Polish Commission of Balkan Culture and History, affiliated as a Full Member to the International organization AIESEE (Association Internationale D‘Etudes Du Sud-Est Europeen) and also to International Committee of Slavists (MKS).

MEMBERSHIPS OF SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

Since 2019    Member of Association for Slaviv East-European and Euro-Asian Studies (ASEEES) University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.

Since 2016 Member of the Board of Warsaw Scientific Society [TNW] (Societas Scientiarum Varsaviensis).

Since 2009 Member of the Commission of Balkanology (Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań). 

What are my academic interests?

Identity issue in the Balkans and Jewish biography;  history of idea in the Balkans in the European Cultural Context; literatures of  Slavia Orthodoxa Realm in the Balkans from 18th to 20th century; question of “controversial tradition“ and sites of memory in the Balkans (between Bulgarian and Macedonian, Serbian and Bulgarian, Serbian and Macedonian).
